In his presentation, “Strong Minds, Strong Bodies: Wellness Strategies for Business Owners and Remote Workers,” Sean shared actionable tips for building healthy habits and movement into our workdays — even when time is limited. Keep reading for a brief event recap, including tips for incorporating wellness into your daily work routine.

The Four Pillars of Wellness and How To Approach Them

Holistic wellness is a multi-faceted pursuit that goes beyond diet and exercise. Sean breaks the concept down into four pillars:

  • Movement

  • Mindset and stress management

  • Energy and nutrition

  • Environment and boundaries

Within each pillar are daily opportunities to take small but intentional actions that support our pursuit of wellness.

Movement: Use “exercise snacks” to wake up your body, increase energy, and improve your mood. Every hour, stand up and take 30-120 seconds to do jumping jacks, high knees, or some other easily accessible, low- to no-equipment exercise.

Mindset and stress management: Take two minutes after meetings or deep work blocks to do a box breathing exercise.

Energy and nutrition: Follow the 1-1-1 rule at each meal by consuming at least one glass of water, one palm-sized serving of protein, and one serving of fruits or vegetables to help ensure a balanced diet.

Environment and boundaries: Create (and stick to!) a hard-stop routine to wind down each work day to minimize stress as you transition from work to non-work activities.

A huge and heartfelt thank you to Sean for sharing his expertise and helping us all discover ways to feel better in our bodies!
